This residency is a deep dive into what your work is about. Focus on what you want to make. Immerse yourself. Read, write, draw, and paint. Find your voice. Connect with other artists. Relax by the ocean. Recharge your creative practice.
September 13 - 20, 2026, I will be offering a week-long encaustic residency-style retreat at The Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, Maine.
12 students will join me for an intensive, self-directed immersion. The goal of our time together is to deepen both the direction of your work and your confidence in yourself as an artist. You will have reading, writing, drawing, and photography assignments. You will give an artist talk in front of a room full of peers. You will have 1:1 time with me to discuss your greatest challenges (and gifts) in the studio. You will paint for hours to build a new body of work. And, of course, there will be delicious eats and a heated saltwater pool overlooking the Atlantic. Come ready to grow and have fun.
Who is this residency for?
This residency is for any artist at that point in their evolution where it would be helpful to carve a week out of their busy lives to deepen their connection to their work. This is not about whether you already have gallery representation or want it; this is about helping you grow and evolve as an artist. You will share images of your work and talk about it and listen to others do the same in a supportive environment.
A few months before the residency I will reach out to each of you to hear a bit more about the type of work or project you wish to focus on while you are at the residency.

All inclusive pricing starts at $3,622. This includes lodging for six nights; breakfast and lunch each day; and supplies.

“Things I loved about the Maine Coast Encaustic Residency: being encouraged to write; to wander the grounds and photograph freely; meeting with you one on one; and especially having the opportunity to present a slideshow of images, talk about them to the other artists, and answer questions.
Of all the classes I’ve taken, many with the talented teachers from R&F, this is the one that I remember as most influential and most memorable. The residency made me think about what my art is about; how it connects to what I see and think; and the ways I record (and alter) memories. I became more intimately connected to my art. That hasn’t made my creative life easier! But it has made that life richer and more exciting, less confined, more spirited.”

“My work grew alongside other artists in a shared creative space that was fostered by you and the physical space. I loved the simplicity of the carriage house coupled with the luxury of not having to think about life logistics like making food. You modeled the ability to balance linear, clear cut components (nuts and bolts of a slideshow, navigating group feedback, how to finish my work) with a kind of joy in exploring an openness between myself and my work.
I learned again about focus, maintaining the intention to hold an accountability and commitment to my voice, and to let that lead me as far as my courage would take it. There was a sense of camaraderie between artists that was very valuable with an artistic and personality mix that generated great group energy. I have maintained a zoom relationship with three of the other participants on a mostly monthly basis for four years that has added deep artistic value and friendship to my life. I would sign up again in a heartbeat.”
