Virtual Workshop: Encaustic Layers & See Throughs + Metal | Metallic

$100.00

This 4 month virtual course includes access to three hours of pre-recorded content and a live hour-long Zoom Q&A session.

Topics covered in the two part Layers & Translucency workshop include: building paintings from the ground up - what can be done directly onto a substrate, between layers of medium, and on the surface - as well as how to create a smooth even surface. Discussions will cover working with various materials including ink, charcoal, Pan Pastel, oil pastel, pencil, graphite, small metal objects, and Pigment Sticks. Emphasis will be placed on creating a sense of light, on the balance and weight of composition, and on expressing meaning through an exploration of accumulating marks, drawings, and image transfers at varying levels.

For those who love old nails or collect small pieces of found metal and rust, Metal | Metallic offers you an opportunity to learn how to incorporate these objects into encaustic. If you are drawn to things that glitter and reflect light, this workshop is for you. We will focus on combining metal and metallic paint with encaustic medium to create work that shimmers and has depth. Additional techniques include working with metallic foil, as well as real and artificial metal leaf. The use of metallic Pigment Stick as a way to finish work, add shine, and enhance metal surfaces will be demonstrated.

November 15th: All three hours of video content will be provided to you. You will have access to these videos for four months.

January 20th: Live hour-long Zoom Q&A session from 11am - 12 noon EST. This Zoom session will be recorded and emailed to everyone registered.
