Conceal + Reveal – Explore the metaphorical possibilities of your work as you conceal and then reveal images and content.
Encaustic Essentials – Whether you are new to encaustic and need to learn how to apply and fuse, need a refresher, or you aspire to teach the medium to others, this workshop will cover the essential information necessary to set up a safe studio and get started.
Encaustiflex – Break free from the rigid substrate. This workshop will be taught by guest instructor Leslie Giuliani. Encaustiflex is a spun microfiber (polyester and nylon) material similar to paper that absorbs encaustic paint beautifully, yet remains physically flexible after painting. Great for book artists.
Incorporating Text – Discover the ways the graphic quality of font can inform your work. We’ll incorporate words, letters, poetry, quotes, and more using drawn, painted, transferred, flat, relief, and dimensional processes.
Joint Compound + Texture – Applied to a support panel, joint compound can be spread, stamped, troweled, drawn into, and reworked to create a relief surface that’s absorbent and thirsty for encaustic.
Leaf Stencils + Organic Materials – Use fresh leaves to create stencils and embed organic materials, beach combings, and other found matter into your work.
Mark Making + Meaning – Broaden your visual vocabulary through creative exercises designed to help you identify and develop a mark that is as unique to you as your own signature or fingerprint.
Metal | Metallic – Learn tricks to combining small found objects, nails, and other types of metal with wax. Work with metallic pigment sticks, metallic paint, and metal leaf to emphasize sheen and add iridescence to your work.
Pigment Sticks 101 – Explore the use of R&F Pigment Sticks. Discover how to work best with wax and oil while learning new ways to add depth, color, and texture to your work.
The Art of the Statement – What is your work about? Be guided through fun and freeing exercises to help develop ways to talk and write about your work.
Transparencies, Layers + See Throughs – If you love that see through look, luminosity, and luscious layers, this intensive is for you.
Wax Resist – Incorporate wax markings, gestural strokes, stamping, folding, batik and resist dyeing to achieve dynamic results that are uniquely your own.
Yoga – Start your day with gentle to moderate yoga and mindful meditation designed to leave you feeling strong and grounded. Mats provided, all levels welcome. 5 yoga sessions count as one workshop.
