Body Casting – Using plaster, plaster gauze, and skin wax, we will make molds of our faces and hands in preparation for sculptural works. Taught by guest instructor Kim Bernard.
Collage – In this workshop we will experiment with paper and wax, noting the way that certain papers become translucent and pliable when saturated with medium. Using tacking irons and heat guns, students will incorporate fabric, paper, image transfers, monoprints, and drawings to create collages. Encaustic paint and Pigment Stick will be used as final layers.
Conceal + Reveal – Explore the metaphorical possibilities of your work as you conceal and then reveal images and content.
Constructions – Diverge from the square and the rectangle. By assembling, nailing, screwing, gluing, and hingeing together wood forms, students will combine shapes and encaustic paint to break out of the box and jump off the wall.
Diptych Collaboration – Collaborating with another artist, we will shake up our artistic practices as we create art that connects to our partner’s work visually or metaphorically. Each student will arrive with a finished piece of work and an artist statement to present to their partner and will leave with a completed diptych.
Encaustic Essentials – Whether you are new to encaustic, need a refresher, or you aspire to teach the medium to others, this workshop will cover the essential information necessary to set up a safe studio and get started.
Encaustic + Photography – An introductory workshop to working with photographs and encaustic. Proper materials for printing and mounting photographs will be demonstrated, as well as the incorporation of Pigment Stick, graphite, and mica powder.
Mini Monoprinting – Use your hot plate to pull unique encaustic prints that can be enhanced with Pigment Stick or metallic leaf and mounted on panels.
Transparencies, Layers + See Throughs – If you love that see through look, luminosity, and luscious layers, this intensive is for you.
Wax Resist – Incorporate wax markings, gestural strokes, stamping, folding, batik and resist dyeing to achieve dynamic results that are uniquely your own.
Working Large – Grow your practice. From concept design to the technical challenges of working large scale, this workshop will help you figure out how to expand your vision. Students will work up to 20” x 20”.
Yoga – Start your day with gentle to moderate yoga and mindful meditation designed to leave you feeling strong and grounded. Mats, straps, and blocks provided. All levels welcome. 5 yoga sessions count as one workshop.
